Turmeric May Make These 14 Pharmaceuticals Extinct

Turmeric’s Long List of Benefits Keeps on Growing

There have been hundreds of studies (at least) conducted on what seems like the billions of health benefits of turmeric (there are actually around 700), and demand for this bold spice is showing absolutely no signs of slowing. This amazing antioxidant has been shown to help with everything from allergies and inflammation to Alzheimer’s and diabetes, and now there are even more victories to add to the list. Click here to view an extensive review of turmeric’s medicinal and pharmacological benefits.

Golden Spice May Be More Effective than Pharmaceuticals

Studies have shown that turmeric wields over 700 powerful benefits, but could this miracle spice be potent enough to replace some pharmaceuticals?

The folks at The Mind Unleashed think so. They compiled research dating back to 1986 to uncover just which drugs we might be able to ditch in favor of turmeric, and the list is quite impressive. Most of these drugs aim to reduce inflammation, and that’s turmeric’s #1 talent.

You can view the complete list of 14 pharmaceuticals that might become passé here. The most surprising drugs on the list include corticosteroids, cholesterol medications, antidepressants, diabetes drugs, and even chemotherapy drugs (over 54 studies were used to back up this list).

Fast Facts: Did you know that turmeric can be used to customize your cosmetics, diminish swimmer’s ear, and even dye Easter eggs? The list doesn’t stop there. Click here to uncover 22 surprising uses for turmeric.

Treating Depression with Turmeric?

Around one in 10 Americans over the age of 12 take antidepressants. However, research suggests that turmeric may work with antidepressants to amplify and accelerate their therapeutic effects.

Researchers followed 40 depression patients who were treated with either 500mg per day of turmeric or placebo in combination with an antidepressant for one year. After just seven days of supplementation, participants noted significant improvements in their symptoms. But here’s the cool part – subjects in the turmeric group experienced much quicker relief than those in the placebo group.

What does this mean for the future of treating depression? The research team says they’re hopeful that higher, more therapeutic doses of turmeric could potentially stimulate relief without the use of drugs.

Fast Facts: As we’ve mentioned before, in India, turmeric is a sign of good fortune, happiness, and health, and it makes a major appearance at weddings. For example, invitations are often marked with a pinch of turmeric before they are sent out, and turmeric paste is applied to the face, hands, and feet of the bride and groom in a ritual called the haldi ceremony, which occurs the day before the wedding.

Boosting Muscle Recovery with Turmeric

Runners rejoice! A new random, placebo-controlled study found that moderately fit men who were given 200mg of turmeric per day were protected from developing muscle soreness after finishing a vigorous downhill run.

Additionally, markers of inflammation and leg pain were reportedly lower in the turmeric group.

The study also demonstrated that it doesn’t take long for turmeric to start defending your muscles: these benefits were observed after just two days of supplementation before and one day of supplementation after the exercise.

Drink Up! Two Turmeric Beverages for Wellness

#1 Turmeric Golden Milk

This recipe from The Sweeter the Juice was passed along to Cindy (our CEO) by her naturopath, who prescribes it as a method of dealing with insulin resistance associated with pre-diabetes (and, alas, plenty of our members are in the range of pre-diabetes, whether they know it or not). This recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free, and packed with antioxidant power to make getting your daily dose of wellness simple and tasty.

Turmeric Paste

  • ¼ cup of Turmeric Powder
  • ½ tsp of Ground Pepper
  • ½ cup of Water

Measure out the ingredients and mix the powders and water in a small saucepan, stirring constantly. Turn the heat to medium and continue stirring until the mixture forms a thick paste. This will happen quickly. Let the mixture cool and then keep it in a small jar in the fridge for future drinks. It will store for a couple of weeks.

Next, prepare the Golden Milk:

Golden Milk

  • 1 cup of Nut Milk of your choice
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Oil, Ghee or Olive Oil, Coconut Oil
  • ¼ teaspoon or more of Turmeric Paste
  • Raw Honey to taste

You can blend all the ingredients to make a rich smoothie or you can warm the milk and serve it with cinnamon or other spices sprinkled on top. If you prefer a sweeter taste, consider adding Vanilla Stevia or blending the mixture with fruits or dates.

#2 Turmeric Tonic for Allergy Relief

If summer allergies are wiping you out but milk of any kind isn’t really your thing, whip up this quick turmeric juice for a potent anti-inflammatory boost.

  • 1-2 teaspoons Turmeric Spice
  • 1/2 an unwaxed Lemon
  • A wedge of Pineapple
  • 1 large Apple

Juice the lemon, pineapple, and apple (keep the skins on) into a glass. Add the turmeric spice and stir until combined. Enjoy fresh or store in the refrigerator for up to one day.
